There is generally a low utilization of informal financial services in Zambia amongst the adult population. The FinScope 2020 findings indicate that overall Informal Inclusion has been on a decline. The report reveals that 32.2 per cent of the adult Zambian population utilities informal financial services relative to 37.9 per cent in 2015. When disaggregated by gender, it was observed that 34.8 per cent of women use informal financial services more than their male counterparts (29.5%). Further, it was observed that 34.1 per cent of Zambian adults who reside in urban areas use informal financial services compared to 30.6 in rural areas. There is still much work to be done, as many barriers still hinder men’s and women’s informal financial inclusion in Zambia.
